So… For those who don’t know I have just started my senior year! Woot woot! I kind of want to go through class by class and explain my schedule and lunch and theatre and all that so here we go…
Also for those who don’t know, American Government and Economics is a class that is a graduation requirement. I had no interest in taking it during the school year and I wanted to pursue more theatre classes, so I took the courses online this summer and ended the class with a 94%. Taking this class this summer allowed me to take FIVE theatre classes and only TWO academic classes this school year! Which is just absolutely crazy.
1st period:
First period, I am taking a class called Communication Skills with one of my favorite teachers, Mrs Smithwick. This class is nothing like a communications class in college, but we do get credit for it as if it was a literature class which is super cool. Communications skills is basically a film class. We are going to learn how to edit films, be in front of the camera and so much more. In this class we’ll get the opportunity to make videos for our Instructional Focus/Homeroom class and we’ll get the opportunity to be on the field during football games, soccer games, and lacrosse games and basically commentate whats happening in the games. Currently, we are working on a huge project that will be a video of the entire school… Using the entire school… Literally. We’ll be highlighting the sports we have to offer and the electives we have to offer in this video and I am super pumped about it.
2nd period:
So not too much interesting happening in second period… I am taking Statistical Reasoning this period and basically its just a very simple math class that I am actually already doing pretty well in! I have lots of friends in this class which is super nice and will be super helpful the rest of the year!
3rd period:
Another theatre class whaaaatttt… Lol. This period I am taking Advanced Drama. I have never taken this class before and if I possibly want to major in musical theatre I should probably have some experience in straight shows rather than just musicals. This class is super fun, we haven’t done much yet, but I’m excited for the year. The other day I auditioned to be a mentor which is basically like you’re in charge of a small group of people and you do workshops with them based on acting methods and give them advice on monologues so thats cool! Something super awesome maybe happening is that.. My friend Parker Hughes and I (but mostly her she is awesome) wrote a play this summer about a bunch of people living in a run down apartment building in the 80’s and having to deal with the grunge/punk scene that happens in the abandoned building next door. If our show is approved… we will be able to put it on which would be incredible.
4th period:
Before heading to 4th period I first go to lunch with my best friend Shelby Utz and a whole bunch of theatre kids. Lunch is so fun and I always look forward to Daniel Holder creating monologues about his food or life experience on the spot, it’s hilarious. After lunch I head to Office Aid. Office Aid is an elective you can take that teaches you basically what its like o have a job in the work place and work for someone, so I take office aid and am basically an assistant to my theatre and chorus director, Mr. Grizzle. Not much is happening right now, I work in the music library and organize the music but once our shows start up it’s going to get crazy that period!
5th period:
This is probably my favorite class this year (Sorry Mr. Grizzle and Mrs. Smithwick!!). From Office Aid I walk to Advanced Composition with CayCay Kelly. First of all, I love having this class with one of my best friends and second of all this class is one of my strong suits and its already been such a great learning experience. I obviously love writing or I wouldn’t have my own blog lol and I love writing in new and different ways and already this class has challenged me to write in weird ways like… Write and don’t stop, edit, erase, scratch out, or anything for 3 minutes. It is so cool.
6th period:
Not much about 6th period either… I take Chorus with Mr. Grizzle and we are working on some new and interesting songs for our fall choir concert. The songs are so beautiful and intriguing, its going to be lovely.
7th period:
YAYAYAYA 7TH PERIOD!! 7th period is Musical Theatre with Mr. Grizzle and Mrs. Smithwick! We are currently doing two shows in our 7th period class… The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (which is also our one act show and I am double casted with my best friend, CayCay Kelly which is so cool) and Thoroughly Modern Millie. These shows are going to be amazing and I couldn’t be more excited! In the winter we are also doing Madagascar Jr. and the freshman will do Music Man Jr. Our Shuler show is Leap of Faith (if you have never heard of it, look up the movie version with Steve Martin!)
and thats about it!
Some cool things about this year is I am one of the head costumers for the shows this year, the other head costumer is my best friend and neighbor Rachael Bennett! (crews to Jewel Cochran for the sketch!) I love costuming and got to be apart of it last year so to kind of lead it this year is going to be such a fun experience. Another cool thing is that I do get the opportunity to take 5 theatre classes (the most anyone has ever taken) and that is because I put so much hard work into my online class which was super tough by the way and I am so blessed this year and I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
